Spring Break: Engage

Wanna know what we are doing right now?

Sitting in lazy boys, painting our nails, and deciding which animated movie to watch!
Cannot think of anything else we would rather do in this moment!

We just got home from swing dancing up at Grounded Cafe! It was super fun and got to catch up with a lot of great people!

This week was definately a home stretch for us - we are both so thankful for this next week off from classes. Still have studying and stuff to get done, but no more BR traffic or clinical mornings when we beat the sunrise!

We had our last clinical this week for the semester - bittersweet for sure because we love being with patients, but we won't be missing that paperwork!

Well we are gonna go watch Up! now - so we will catch ya later! Most likely with an update on our Spring Break!

Love, Kelly and Aimee!

Gooooooood morrrrninggggg fellow blog readers!!

Today is the mark of our second to last week of classes! Can we get an AMEN?!! Last week was a bit crazy for us!  Quick recap: Psych test and reading EKG strips on Monday, beastly ATI tests on Tuesday, clinical day on Wednesday, and our awful 4 hours straight of lecture on Thursday.

Tuesday a group of us went to Kirin Sushi to celebrate Shannon's -one of Kelly's roommates- 23rd birthday!
-Us being the nerds that we are, had to bring our text books and study while we waited for our food.  ...
just kidding! :] It was a wonderful evening celebrating Shannon's birthday!

....and for proof that we really do own clothes other than our forest green scrubs...

We are currently in CC's in Baton Rouge -not to be mistaken with their local distribution center- supposed to be studying for our psych quiz today, but we found better things to do.  :]  After we finish blogging, we will probably do some Vera Bradley shopping before class.  What better way to start the day than with some Vera??   The rest of our week consists of two full days of our last week in clinical and our 3rd Adult exam which we have yet to study for :-o -yikes!-

Hope y'all have a great week!

broken from the insde out

Hello faithful readers.  It's Aimee.  Tonight I'm writing to you with a heavy heart.  Before I get ahead of myself, let me explain.  For a few years now, I have been following this amazing life-changing inspiring journey of a girl's ministry/life in Africa through her blog.  Well tonight, she posted something that really hit home for me.  After a mission trip to South Africa the Summer of 2008, I have always dreamed of going back after nursing school to care for the broken people in the rural areas in which we served.  -All of this will come together in a minute, promise.-  So after reading Katie's post tonight, God reminded me of an aspect of nursing that isn't taught in school or found in any nursing textbook.  The people who I take care of have a story, some may be more broken than others.  As a nurse, my job is to help fix what's broken on the outside.  But as a Christian, my job is to help fix what's broken on the inside- and I know that this is only possible through Christ Jesus.  What better opportunity do I have to show the love of Christ to someone who is hurting on the inside more than their physical pain on the outside.  -yet another reason why I love nursing!  This has been a really crazy and defeating week of nursing school but I am so thankful that God has used Katie's amazing yet heart-breaking posts to show me that there is more to nursing than just textbooks and tests.  I am slowly coming to the realization that nursing is an open opportunity to invest in the lives of your patients, to let them know that you care for them when the world seems to turn away.  That nursing is an opportunity to show my patients God's love, but most importantly to have the opportunity to lead someone to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Matthew 11:28-29

Hey faithful followers! Let's backtrack a week: So last weekend us and our moms participated in the St. Tammany Parish Heart Walk at Fountainbleu State Park.

This little precious kept up with us the whole 3.2 miles in the blazing heat!
YAY for lifelong fitness!

The local PJs was represented, we just think they came to cheer on their biggest fans AKA us! They generously provided us with several FREE upsizes; which we were extremely excited about!
this deserved 2 thumbs up for sure!

After the walk, we went to refuel with our moms at the local Coffee Rani
(they have the BEST salads in the world. Seriously, we are addicted!)
Later that day it was back to the mass chaos of careplanning!
<The Minefield: See Picture Below>
-an explosion of coffee, Easter gummies, trach suction kits, care plan books, innocent pillow pets, and the Bible for much needed peace and direction.  Which all amazingly worked together to create completed care plans.

Now let's fast-forward to the present: We are both sitting in our usual booth, a little behind on the rent, -thankfully the owners are pretty gracious with us-.  As we sit and read about Psych, we are currently experiencing a bit of Mania ourselves.  Caution kids: this is what 3rd semester will do to ya!   This week is gonna be a bit crazy as we near the final stretch of the semester! Monday we will be taking our 3rd Psych exam and Tuesday will be the day of ATI testing.
(Remember that picture of the insanely large book, yea, that test  :-O )

P.S. : We both successfully passed our 2nd skills returns thanks to our make-shift skills lab environment.  This friends, is what you call using your resources wisely and being creative with available supplies -aka feminine hygiene products.  This is our version of a dry sterile dressing applied to the right forearm of a ladybug.  We wouldn't suggest trying this at home.

grade A eggs

So readers, do you wanna know a secret?! Apparently there is more to "grade A eggs" than just the name.  Every morning of a test that I eat eggs (3 scrambled to be exact), I end up making an "A" on the exam! <knock on wood!!! -again not superstitious, just a nursing student>  Not really sure what the whole "grade A eggs" really means, but I've found a more personal definition for it! :]

So far this weekend, I've managed to be pretty non-productive.  But after such a crazy week it's hard to do anything that requires the use of even one brain cell.  This past week was a bit of a killer!  It was back to waking up at 4:45 and 2 full very trying days of Med/Surg clinical.  But the good news is that it's over and now we are moving on! Yes, moving on to the last of 4 weeks -minus spring break and finals week-! I can hardly contain my excitement about this!!

Exciting part of the day: Getting my FUGE staffer packet in mail today! -FUGE is a Christian camp that I will be working all summer long!  I'm so excited about being able to show God's love to countless teenagers and to have the opportunity to make an impact in their lives!  It should definitely be a memorable summer! -and yes, I will be blogging about my experiences all summer on my personal blog page!- 55 more days until I leave for FUGE!!! :]

-this would be a picture of the yummy crawfish I ate today-
-just another reason why I love spring-

Oh and tomorrow is the day of the heart walk! YAY!!
Well, better go get some sleep so I can be ready for a hopefully productive day! :]
Good night fellow blog friends!
